Successful World Athletics Continental Tour Debut, Seven Meeting Records Broken
The eighth edition of the Rieter Athletics Meeting made history twice on Wednesday, August 19. For the first time, the meeting was part of the prestigious World Athletics Continental Tour at Challenger level, and its debut proved to be one of the strongest editions Ústí nad Orlicí has ever seen. Athletes from 19 countries ultimately made their way to Ústí nad Orlicí, hundreds of spectators filled the stands, and meeting records were broken in seven of the twelve main events.
Commentator Štěpán Škorpil summed it up perfectly: “Seven meeting records from the 2026 programme. I think this number will make the 2026 Rieter Meeting one to remember.”
Dudycha breaks the Czech record again and clocks the 10th-fastest time in the world
The biggest moment of the evening belonged to home favourite Jakub Dudycha. In the 600 metres, an event in which he set the inaugural Czech record last year, he went even faster this time, clocking 1:14.92 — half a second quicker than his own national record from 2025. According to the current world lists, it is the 10th-fastest time in the world this year over the distance. His performance was also named the best men’s performance of the entire meeting.
The women’s award went to Ghanaian hurdler Evonne Britton, who completed the 100 m hurdles in 13.10, missing another meeting record by just one hundredth of a second.
Krutilová impresses spectators and rivals alike
One of the highlights of the evening came in the women’s pole vault, where Nicole Krutilová put on a superb performance. The newly crowned World U20 champion left no doubt as to who the favourite was, dominating the competition with a winning clearance of 4.33 metres.
Farkaš — the world champion who ruled the long jump runway
Croatia’s Roko Farkaš, the 2024 World U20 champion, confirmed his quality in Ústí nad Orlicí by winning the men’s long jump with 7.75 metres, once again showing why he is a name to watch as he moves into the senior ranks.
Big names live up to their reputation
The crowd was also thrilled by Jamaican sprinter Jodean Williams, a silver medallist in the 4×100 m relay at the 2025 World Championships and a winner at this year’s World Athletics Relays. She dominated the women’s 100 metres in 11.18.
Although the symbolic 10-second barrier was not broken in the men’s 100 metres, South African winner Abdurahman Karriem clocked 10.19, improving the meeting record that had stood since 2020.
In the discus, Romania’s Alin-Alexandru Firfirică produced an impressive series, surpassing 60 metres five times and comfortably taking victory with a best throw of 62.07 metres.
The hurdles also gave spectators the chance to see Czech sprinting legend Petr Svoboda, who entered the race with the aim of helping his younger competitors achieve faster times.
American runner Duncan Hamilton won the steeplechase in a sub-8:30 performance, crossing the line in 8:29.86.
